Michael grew up in the Strawberry Mansion section of North Philadelphia where his riding career began at the Fletcher Street Stables in the 80’s. Upshur is a graduate of Simon Gratz High School. He has been a member of the Stable’s family for the past thirty plus years as a horse owner, and a mentor to youth. Upshur owned a great number of horses that were used for Bush racing on Philadelphia’s iconic “Speedway” to then being an owner of horses at Philadelphia Racetrack & Parx Casino. Currently, he is an active and instrumental Board Member for PURA, and also the Stable operations Manager. Upshur is also a Co-owner of Concrete Horsemanship.
